Swiss Re’s Mike Mitchell set to leave the company in late 2023

Mike Mitchell, Head of Property & Specialty UW at reinsurance giant Swiss Re, has announced that he will be leaving the firm towards the end of the year.

In a statement, Mitchell said that he has agreed with Swiss Re to help complete the July 1st renewals before he departs later in the year.

Mitchell said: “Thanks to Swiss Re for having provided me with such amazing colleagues and being an incredible place to work and learn – the years flew by! I am also excited to see how the new Swiss Re takes shape. The new organisational structure establishes a great platform for future success. I will keep you posted as to my own plans!”

Having been with Swiss Re for 35 years, Mitchell has had a remarkable career at the firm. Throughout his tenure, he has served in a variety of different roles.

In 1997 he was named Property Underwriter, SEA, where he was based in Singapore.

After nearly five years of service in that role, Mitchell then focused on the firms Australia headquarters, when he was named Business Manager, Melbourne in 2001.

In 2006, he was then appointed to Chief Property Underwriter, Asia, where he led teams based in Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Beijing. Additionally in 2013, he also took on the role of Head of Structured Reinsurance Solutions.

Moreover, in 2015, he was then named Head of Property Casualty Fac – Asia Pacific. He served in this role for two years, before he was then named Head of Property & Specialty UW in 2017.

Meanwhile, Swiss Re recently announced plans to streamline its organisational structure, which will include splitting its Reinsurance Business Unit into P&C Re and L&H Re.

The changes which are subject to regulatory approvals, are effective April 3, 2023.
