The Hartford names Head of NE division sales & underwriting for middle & large commercial

Property and casualty insurer, The Hartford, has named Matthew Massaro head of sales and underwriting for its Middle and Large Commercial Businesses’ Northeast Division.

Use This HartfordMassaro has been with the insurer for more than 25 years, most recently serving as Regional Vice President for the firm’s Connecticut and Long Island, New York offices.

Throughout his career, he has served in positions of increasing responsibility, including sales, underwriting and product development.

In his new role, Massaro is expected to be responsible for leading sales and underwriting operations for The Hartford’s independent agents, brokers and customers across seven Northeastern states from Maine – New York.

It has also been confirmed that Massaro will report to Gretchen Thompson, head of Field Operations and General Industries for Middle and Large Commercial insurance.

Commenting on the appointment, Thompson said: “Matt brings a strong and diverse set of leadership skills, experiences and a passion for building strong relationships and developing talent to this role. His proven track record and ability to deliver smart solutions to our agent and broker partners positions us well for continued success.”

Earlier this month, The Hartford unveiled a new organisational structure combining its Operations and and Technology, Data, Analytics & Cyber functions under one leadership to advance the company’s strategy.

As part of this new structure, the company expanded Deepa Soni’s role as chief information officer and head of Technology, Data, Analytics & Cyber to include Operations.
