It was announced a year ago that Tony Cheng would succeed Anna Manning, who has now left Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) after roughly 17 years of service, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the life and health reinsurer.
Cheng joined RGA in 1997, and took over from Manning as President of the company in January 2023, when it was announced that he would also assume the CEO role following Manning’s retirement on December 31st, 2023.
His dual role as President and CEO of the company began on January 1st, 2024, and Cheng will continue to serve on the company’s Board.
Around 27 years ago, Cheng joined RGA as Chief Actuary of its joint venture with the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia, Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Berhad. In 2004, he was named CEO of the Hong Kong office, and in 2011 he was appointed Senior Vice President, Asia.
Prior to being appointed as President of RGA, Cheng served as Executive Vice President, Head of Asia, Australia and EMEA.
Under Manning’s leadership, RGA strengthened its position as a leader in the life and health reinsurance space and a Fortune 225 company.
