TransRe’s Paul Bonny to retire as EVC

Transatlantic Holdings, Inc. (TransRe), a reinsurance company wholly owned by Alleghany Corporation, has announced the retirement of Paul Bonny as Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) after 41 years.

TransReAccording to the announcement, he will continue to offer advice and assistance to the reinsurer through his ongoing role as a non-Executive Director of TransRe.

In recognizing Bonny’s contribution to the company, Ken Brandt, President and CEO of TransRe, commented:“Paul has been an institution both at TransRe and across the London and international markets throughout my reinsurance career.

“For the past seventeen years I have been able to call on his advice and counsel, and I have been lucky enough to call him my friend. I wish Paul and Sue a long and healthy retirement together.”

Bonny founded TransRe’s International division when he opened the London office in 1982. Since then, he has built a team of almost two hundred professionals in eleven offices across eight time zones.

The reinsurer has praised Bonny and stated he has played the most significant role in creating the global reinsurance brand that TransRe is today.

Since joining the company as an underwriter over four decades ago, he held various management positions, including as head of the London facultative team, and head of European Operations.

He was also President of the Europe and Asia Pacific Business Unit, which included the London Market, Continental Europe, Middle East, Asia, Australasia and Africa regions. In 2021, Bonny, who was also at the time Co-President of Global Underwriting, was named Executive Vice Chairman of TransRe.
