We interviewed Tom Johansmeyer, Head of PCS, today, to gain some background colour and a view on the rioting and civil disturbance seen at the US Capitol buildings on January 6th 2021.
While the rioting and disturbances seen at the US Capitol yesterday aren’t expected to have any significant financial implications in terms of losses for the insurance and reinsurance industry, there is still a lot to consider, Johansmeyer believes.
Johansmeyer discussed the backdrop to yesterday’s events, as so-called strike, riot and civil commotion (SRCC) risks have appeared elevated for more than a year.
He explained why this is and what has influenced these trends, especially in the United States.
Johansmeyer also provided some colour on previous major insurance and reinsurance industry SRCC events, and explained what to think about in the industry loss warranty (ILW) market, as well as how industry participants should be thinking of SRCC risks going forwards.
