Verisk names Rob Newbold President, Extreme Event Solutions as Bill Churney retires

Verisk, the global data analytics and technology provider, has named Rob Newbold to succeed Bill Churney as the President, Extreme Event Solutions following his retirement.

Lee Shavel, President and Chief Executive Officer, Verisk, commented on the appointment, “The Extreme Event Solutions team plays a critical role in helping Verisk serve as a strategic data analytics and technology partner to the insurance industry, and the team makes significant contributions to building global resilience.

“For two decades, Rob has been a driving force behind the client-driven innovation, rooted in the latest science, which is a cornerstone of the team’s growth. With the support of a strong and diverse leadership team, he will further expand the Extreme Event Solutions team’s contributions to the success of our clients and the global insurance industry.”

Newbold joined Verisk in 2002 as a risk consultant, and since then he has held several roles of increasing responsibility. He has been integral to the business’s growth during his tenure.

In the wake of the 2008 financial crisis when the 144A property catastrophe bond market grew steadily, he built and led the team that continues to serve as the global standard for catastrophe bond risk assessment.

Most recently, Newbold served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Extreme Event Solutions.

Newbold added, “I’m honored to build on the incredible momentum we’ve gained under Bill’s leadership. We’re proud of our role in helping clients and the global insurance industry prepare for extreme events, from modeling to mitigation efforts.

Churney retires from Verisk after 21 years of service with the company. For the past eight years, he served as the President of Extreme Event Solutions.

Shavel commented on his retirement, “Bill has made significant contributions to the extreme events modeling business and the insurance industry, earning him the trust and respect of colleagues, clients and partners around the world. We are thankful for his leadership and wish him the success he deserves in this next chapter of his life.”
