VIG Re appoints Tobias Sonndorfer Vice-Chairman of Board of Directors

VIG Re, the reinsurance company of Vienna Insurance Group, has announced the appointment of Tobias Sonndorfer as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective February 1, 2024.

In addition to his role as Vice-Chairman, Sonndorfer will also assume the position of Chairman of the company’s Executive Committee next to his current responsibilities.

These include the coordination of VIG Re’s strategy and the acceleration of its digitization efforts, the business responsibility for Intragroup cessions and the company’s outgoing reinsurance.

“Since Tobias joined VIG Re, he has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership skills. His expanded responsibilities reflect the key role he will play in achieving our strategic ambitions, bringing VIG Re to the next level as a trusted and professional partner,” said Martin Hartmann, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of VIG Re.

Sonndorfer holds 17 years of experience in both financial services and the reinsurance industry. Prior to his new appointment, he was serving as a Member of the Board of Directors at VIG RE, tasked with overseeing the company’s strategy coordination, and taking the lead in driving digital transformation initiatives.

Previously, he worked at Munich Re as a Client Management Executive, being responsible for CEE, SEE, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and Luxemburg.

Over the last decade, Sonndorfer has held several senior managerial positions within Munich Re, both in traditional and non-traditional reinsurance solutions, with a strong international focus.  Earlier in his career, he served as a senior consultant at PWC in Germany.
