Westfield Specialty International, a provider of specialty insurance and reinsurance solutions, has expanded its reinsurance division with the appointment of Chris Gray as Divisional Director.
Based in London, Gray will report directly to Jeremy Shallow, Chief Underwriting Officer at Westfield Specialty International.
With over two decades of underwriting experience in the re/insurance industry, Gray joins the team after serving as Global Head of Marine Reinsurance at AXIS.
His extensive career includes senior roles at Swiss Re and Canopius Group, where he led underwriting teams across a wide range of sectors, including marine and energy, casualty, P&I, agriculture, terrorism, political violence, and political risk.
Gray’s expertise will play a pivotal role as Westfield Specialty International continues to diversify and strengthen its reinsurance offerings.
Graham Evans, CEO of Westfield Specialty International, said: “Chris’ reinsurance leadership experience has provided him with vast knowledge and expertise that will be a valuable addition to us as we continue to drive the business forward. A refreshed and expanded reinsurance offering is an important element of Westfield Specialty’s long-term strategy for growth and Chris is the person to deliver that for our business.”
“Over the last two years we have strengthened our underwriting talent pool to complement our existing team. Our unique mutual structure enables us to focus on long-term profitable growth strategies whilst attracting and retaining outstanding underwriters such as Chris.”
Shallow commented: “The journey that Westfield is on is an exciting one, and I am looking forward to Chris getting started. The specialty reinsurance market remains one with potential for growth.
“I am confident in Chris’s leadership in conjunction with recent additions Nate Field and Alex Wareham, alongside Tom Marsden’s well-established career with the syndicate. Together, the team gives Westfield a great opportunity to be a strong player in the specialty reinsurance market and to deliver sustainable underwriting success.”
