The Reinsurance Association of America (RAA), the trade association representing property and casualty reinsurers operating in the United States, has announced the appointment of William Fawcett as Head of ReSources and the RAA Reinsurance Education Institute.
In his new role, Fawcett will oversee initiatives designed to strengthen and expand the RAA’s position in industry education, while also supporting the growth and diversification of the association’s revenue streams.
Fawcett brings decades of experience in the global property and casualty insurance sector. Prior to joining the RAA, he served as Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at GEICO. Earlier in his career, he held the position of Associate Commissioner for Property and Casualty Insurance at the Maryland Insurance Administration.
Commenting on the appointment, Tracey Laws, President and Chief Executive Officer of the RAA, said: “Bill’s unique combination of executive industry leadership, regulatory experience, deep substantive knowledge, legal expertise and his commitment to team building and industry education makes him exceptionally well suited to lead RAA ReSources. His experience across the global reinsurance and insurance sector will enhance the educational resources we provide to the industry and policymakers.”
According to the RAA, Fawcett has also held senior executive positions with international organisations including Allianz Global, AXA, Flagstone Reinsurance Holdings SA and Haverford Holdings, where he contributed to the development and leadership of high-performing teams.
Fawcett holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colgate University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific. He also completed doctoral studies in business administration at the International School of Management in Paris. The RAA noted that he is licensed to practise law in multiple US states, as well as in England, Ireland, Wales and Bermuda. He is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
The RAA said the appointment reflects its ongoing focus on enhancing educational resources and professional development opportunities for the reinsurance sector through ReSources and the RAA Reinsurance Education Institute.
