Specialist insurance and reinsurance broker Tysers has appointed William Furness-Smith as interim CEO of Tysers Singapore following the departure of Babita Rai, CEO & Executive Director, Reinsurance, who is leaving the business to pursue new interests.

Furness-Smith’s appointment as permanent CEO is subject to approval by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Tysers explained that he has a longstanding association with the APAC region, relocating to Singapore in 2024 as Head of Marine APAC to lead regional strategy and client development.

Furness-Smith joined Tysers in 2015 and is, according to the firm, well-positioned to drive its ambitious insurance and reinsurance growth strategy across the region.

Tysers explained that he will work closely with his team in Singapore as well as in collaboration with the firm’s wider network.

“Babita has helped to strengthen Tysers’ presence in Singapore. We thank her for her commitment and wish her every success in her future endeavours,” Tysers said.

Tom Wilson, CEO, Tysers, added, “We are grateful for Babita’s contribution to Tysers Singapore and wish her well in her next challenge.

“At the same time, we are delighted to welcome William to this role, an incredibly well-deserved internal promotion, and look forward to the next phase of Tysers’ growth in Singapore and across APAC.”
