Willis Re, the reinsurance arm of international broker Willis Towers Watson, has appoint Edward Torres as Structured Risks & Legacy broker.
As a member of the Financial Advisory team, Torres will operate out of Willis Re’s New York City office and will focus on the placement of prospective structured reinsurance solutions and legacy liability transfers.
Torres joins Willis Re from PartnerRe, where he most recently served as Director of Capital Markets, developing the company’s insurance-linked securities (ILS) and alternative capital strategy.
Prior to this, he served as President and Portfolio Manager at ILS investment manager Baldwin & Lyons Capital Markets, before which he was a Registered Principal at Benfield Advisory, Inc., where he was focused on originating, structuring and distributing ILS.
Torres began his career as a Structured Reinsurance underwriter and has always operated at the intersection of insurance and capital markets, Willis Re said.
“Structured products, particularly legacy liability transfers, will become an increasingly important area for our clients,” said Jim Bradshaw, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Willis Re North America.
“Willis Re has an established reputation for innovation and client advocacy in this area and we are delighted to welcome Ed Torres to the team to help expand this effort,” he added. “Willis Re is committed to bringing the most efficient form of capital to its clients, across a full spectrum of products.
“Willis Towers Watson has the broadest set of capabilities in the market and Willis Re is committed to bringing the most efficient form of capital to its clients, across a full spectrum of products.”
