Carsten Schildknecht has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zurich Insurance Group’s Germany operations, after the existing CEO Marcus Nagel announced he would be stepping down.
Schildknecht worked at Generali Group from 2013 to 2016 as Group Chief Operating Officer and a member of the insurers Management Committee. He worked on initiatives to coordinate customer services within the business, as well as digitalisation efforts.
Following his time at Generali, Schildknecht became a consultant and investor working with insurance technology (insurtech) start-ups, as well as other financial technology (fintech) companies.
His career also includes time working at Deutsche Bank as COO for global private wealth management, based in London and Frankfurt.
Gary Shaughnessy, CEO Europe, Middle East & Africa at Zurich commented on the appointment, “I’m delighted that Zurich continues to attract top talent, and Carsten Schildknecht will continue to drive profitable business growth in Germany and help us drive our strategy of innovation and simplification in the interests of our customers, with extensive expertise in FinTech.
“This will include the smart use of technology, and its partnership building experience will enable us to continue building on our achievements in this area.”
