Large primary carrier Zurich Insurance Group has expanded the availability of Data Centre Project Guard, a comprehensive insurance and risk management solution for large-scale construction projects, to meet growing global customer demand for coordinated protection.
Following its successful U.S. debut, where Zurich underwrote more than 245 data centre construction projects in 2025 alone, the solution is now being rolled out in Brazil, Germany, Italy, the Nordics and Spain, with further expansion planned across additional markets throughout 2026.
The insurer said that this expansion corresponds to the market conditions, which estimate global spending on data centre infrastructure to exceed $7 trillion by 2030, as developers race to build large-scale capacity across multiple countries and regulatory environments.
Data Centre Project Guard integrates contractors’ all-risk coverage with optional third-party liability, advanced loss of profits/delay-in-startup, and transitional operational coverages to address exposures arising from data centre construction.
Additionally, the coverage is structured to meet local regulatory requirements while delivering consistent protection across jurisdictions.
Kelly Kinzer, Global Head of Construction & Surety, Zurich, commented, “We are seeing unprecedented growth in data centre construction, driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and the need for greater computing capacity. These are highly complex projects requiring specialised expertise.
“With Data Centre Project Guard, we provide our customers with consistent, end-to-end protection backed by our leading underwriting and risk engineering capabilities and decades of technical risk expertise.”
As part of the Data Centre Project Guard offering, Zurich Resilience Solutions provides targeted risk engineering and advisory support throughout the construction lifecycle, from project planning through to completion, helping customers strengthen operational resilience and reduce exposure before issues arise.
