ANV Group Holdings Ltd., a global insurance intermediary platform, has acquired Texas-based managing general agent (MGA) specialising in tough-to-place monoline workers’ compensation insurance, Specialty Comp Insurance Solutions (SCIS), from Specialty Program Group, a subsidiary of Hub International.

ANV group logoThe acquisition aims to bolster ANV’s specialty product offering and US presence with the addition of a differentiated regional workers’ compensation MGA with deep middle-market expertise.

In 2025, SCIS wrote around $250 million in gross written premiums, and currently manages a diversified portfolio with investments in construction, manufacturing, and healthcare. The MGA also has a significant presence in the temporary staffing industry.

SCIS joins Risico, ANV’s California-based agricultural workers’ compensation MGA, as part of the firm’s broader strategy to build a scaled, diversified workers’ compensation platform spanning program underwriting, wholesale distribution, and specialty niches across the US.

The team is led by Executive Vice President, Steve Math, who has 35 years of insurance experience, and served in prior leadership roles at Texas Mutual, Argo Group, and ACE USA.

Alan Wynn serves as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Underwriting Officer, and has over 22 years of experience at Argo Group, where he most recently served as Senior Vice President (SVP) and Head of US Commercial Programs.

Matthew Feury serves as the SVP of Underwriting and has led SCIS’s underwriting strategy since 2012. He has over two decades of specialty workers’ compensation expertise from prior roles at QBE, ACE/Chubb, and AIG.

Mike Beck also served as SVP and Field Underwriting Officer of SCIS, and has supported the firm since it began operations in 2007. He has deep specialty workers’ compensation expertise having served as VP of Workers’ Compensation Underwriting at QBE North America, Senior Workers’ Compensation Underwriting Director at ACE/Chubb, and Senior Classification Analyst at NCCI.

Adam Karkowsky, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ANV, commented, “Adding SCIS alongside Risico, our existing workers comp business, establishes ANV as a leading provider of middle-market workers comp with diversified underwriting expertise and a go-to option for hard-to-place risks. Together, these businesses form the foundation of a differentiated workers’ compensation platform with real depth across the U.S. market.”

Chris Treanor, President and CEO, Specialty Program Group, said, “Parting with SCIS is not a decision we took lightly — we very rarely sell businesses. However, faced with a unique set of circumstances, we determined that a sale to ANV was the right path forward for our insureds, broker partners, and employees. ANV’s deep capacity relationship with AmTrust and closely aligned philosophy gave us confidence in this decision, and we look forward to supporting them as a trusted trading partner.”
