Aon plc, the global professional services firm, has appointed Phil Smaje as Global Chief Broking Officer, transportation and logistics for Commercial Risk.
He will be based in Aon’s London office and report to Lee Meyrick, Global Industry Specialty leader, transportation and logistics and Chief Executive Officer, global marine for Commercial Risk and is a member of the global Risk Capital Solutions team.
Meyrick commented on the appointment, “We are thrilled to work with Phil to help our transportation and logistics clients better understand new and existing risks and match risk and capital in this growing and dynamic industry.”
Aon explained that this move reinforces its commitment to amplifying its core offerings and helping clients make better decisions through its broking community.
In the new role, Smaje’s remit will include further developing the firm services to the clients with a focus on specialty broking. Aon added that Smaje will “seek to help specialty clients be better informed with integrated risk analytics and be better advised on optimizing capital to navigate volatility.”
Previously, Smaje served as the Head of Broking for Ardonagh Specialty. Before that, he co-founded and served as Chief Executive Officer of Piiq Risk Partners.
His other experience also includes serving several senior roles at Willis Towers Watson, including the Global Head of Broking, Chief Broking Officer for Willis GB and Chief Executive Officer for aerospace.
Smaje’s appointment follows several significant leadership appointments by Aon in recent months, including Jeff Alpaugh as President of North America, and Todd Jones as an Executive Vice President for Risk Capital.
Recently, Cynthia Beveridge was also appointed as the Global Chief Broking Officer for Commercial Risk and Sean Rider as Head of Advanced Risk Analytics for Commercial Risk in North America.
