Aon hires U.S. intelligence expert in Cyber role

1st February 2017 - Author: Luke Gallin

Reinsurance broker Aon Benfield has hired U.S. intelligence expert Craig Guiliano, as Technology Consultant in its Cyber division, as it looks to improve its understanding of cyber risks across the world.

Guiliano joins the firm with more than 13 years of experience in conducting human and business intelligence, the assessment of cyber risks, due diligence and intelligence analysis in both public and private sectors.

In his new role he will be responsible for developing the broker’s modelling tools, which includes CyberMetrica, and will be tasked with establishing new data sets to support the continued evolution of Aon Benfield’s cyber operations.

Furthermore, Guiliano will work with Stroz Friedberg experts following the broker’s acquisition of the entity in order to leverage new risk management capabilities, but with a focus on cyber security.

Discussing his new role, Guiliano said; “Lack of data is the biggest challenge for re/insurers to understand potential accumulations so I’ll be working with the team to bring together different data sets and scenarios to enhance our analysis.

I’m really excited about this role to take advantage of my experience in security and incorporate an academic edge to our research.”

Previously, he spent a decade in U.S. intelligence and toured in Africa, Iraq and Afghanistan, with a responsibility to ensure safe and secure human intelligence collection operations and the sharing of information in timely, counter-terrorism and political intelligence reporting.

Following this he has worked for Tailored Solutions and Consulting Inc., where he further strengthened his security assessment and cyber risk knowledge, and “notably delivered cyber assessments on behalf of global and London market insurers to better understand their exposures in the utilities sector.”

He will report to Jon Laux, Head of Cyber Analytics at Aon Benfield, who said: “We are thrilled that Craig has joined our team to boost our in-house cyber expertise. This provides an invaluable perspective that will complement our broking and analytical capabilities as we strive to bring about more resilience to cyber across the re/insurance industry.”
