Aon names Marcell CEO of new Reinsurance Solutions division

Global broking powerhouse Aon has announced that Andrew Marcell has been appointed as the firms Chief Executive Officer of its new Reinsurance Solutions division, effective immediately.

andy-marcell-aon-reinsuranceAon recently announced a rebranding of its reinsurance broking unit Aon Benfield to just Aon and has split its operations into new Solutions divisions, one of which is the Reinsurance Solutions arm.

Along with the change, Eric Andersen who was CEO of Aon Benfield was made co-President of Aon, leaving a gap at the top of the reinsurance broking arm, which Andrew Marcell will now fill.

Marcell will take on responsibility for managing the existing operations and growth strategy of Aon’s Reinsurance Solutions business as the brand transition from Aon Benfield begins.

He will be based in New York and will continue to report to Eric Andersen, co-President of Aon plc.

Eric Andersen, co-President of Aon, commented on the announcement, “After joining our firm three years ago, Andy has performed varied roles that have given him an in-depth understanding of Aon’s Reinsurance Solutions business. Marcell originally joined Aon in 2015 in the role of Head of Strategy for Aon Benfield, then becoming President of Aon Benfield in 2017, to take on a wider executive role and to support ongoing growth strategies at the reinsurance broker.

Before joining Aon Benfield in 2015, Marcell was CEO of rival Guy Carpenter’s U.S. broking Operations and head of its Global Facultative business. He also sat on the firms Board of Managers and was part of the International Leadership Team. He joined Guy Carpenter’s London office in 1990 from Hoare Govett in London, where he worked as a Convertible Equity Trader.
