Apollo, part of the Skyward Group, has announced both the appointment of Paul Thomas and the expansion of its specialty division through the launch of a sports and entertainment (S&E) class of business.
The company states that this development brings S&E together with its established contingency and accident & health (A&H) capabilities, creating a more integrated offering intended to support profitable growth in selected segments where Apollo aims to build long-term, sustainable positions while continuing to diversify its portfolio.
Thomas joins with more than twenty years of experience in sports, media and entertainment underwriting, having most recently served as Global Head of Sports, Media, and Entertainment at AXA XL.
The company describes him as an experienced industry leader with a background in managing multidisciplinary teams and developing solutions across a broad range of classes, and as someone recognised for delivering tailored risk strategies internationally.
Chris King, Head of Specialty at Apollo, said: “Paul joining our specialty division is an exciting opportunity for Apollo. His experience and recognised expertise in the S&E markets will enhance our position as we work to deliver one cohesive proposition for our partners.”
James Slaughter, Chief Underwriting Officer at Apollo, added: “The introduction of the S&E class reflects our strategy of building innovative, client-centric solutions that align with broker and client needs. Under Paul’s leadership and nuanced understanding of these markets, we will create transformational opportunities for both our partners and our portfolio.”
