Apollo, part of Skyward Group and an insurance platform focused on innovation, has announced the launch of an international casualty reinsurance class, extending its existing portfolio and broadening its reach across global markets.

The company presents the addition as a strategic move designed to support clients with complex risk requirements while introducing a lower-volatility segment to its overall portfolio.

Apollo has appointed Tim Mackenzie to lead the new business line, with his role commencing in October. He brings over 20 years of experience in international casualty and reinsurance markets, most recently holding a position at Berkley Re. Apollo attributes importance to his industry background and professional network in shaping the development of the class.

Paul Sandi, Head of Reinsurance at Apollo, said: “Tim’s exceptional reputation and well-established relationships will build on the division’s successful 2025, as we begin underwriting the class from 1st January 2027. His appointment underscores our commitment to attracting top-tier talent capable of driving success in emerging opportunities.”

Apollo indicates that underwriting for the new class is scheduled to begin on 1 January 2027, forming part of its longer-term reinsurance strategy. The company views the initiative as contributing to portfolio balance while enhancing its ability to operate across a wider range of international casualty risks.

James Slaughter, Chief Underwriting Officer at Apollo, added: “The introduction of international casualty reinsurance reinforces our position as a forward-thinking reinsurer dedicated to supporting diverse client needs. This class not only enhances portfolio stability but strengthens our ability to deliver market-leading returns through thoughtful diversification and disciplined execution.”
