Arcus 1856 appoints new Managing Director and COO

Reinsurance underwriter Arcus Syndicate 1856 has announced the dual appointment of Adrian Gfeller to the role of Managing Director and Gary Delaney as Head of Operations, effective August 1.

arcus-1856-logoGfeller has served as Chief Risk Officer at Arcus since its launch in 2015 and brings over a decade of experience to his new position. Prior to joining Arcus 1856, he was a senior risk modeller in Credit Suisse’s ILS team in Zurich and London.

Delany was previously Syndicate Manager at Arcus and prior to joining the firm was a class of business deputy executive at Lloyd’s. The firm says he has a thorough understanding of all aspects of the syndicate’s underwriting operations.

Commenting on the announcement, Gfeller said: “I am delighted to be taking the helm at Arcus 1856 and to be announcing the promotion of Gary to head of operations.”

Additionally, David Booth is to be interim Active Underwriter while continuing in his role as Director of Underwriting for Barbican Managing Agency Limited.

Sarah Smith, currently an underwriter at Arcus 1856, has been appointed as acting Deputy Active Underwriter.

“Barbican Managing Agency provides invaluable support to Arcus 1856 and we are delighted that David will act as interim active underwriter as we look to appoint a suitably experienced underwriter to fill the position on a permanent basis,” added Gfeller.
