Aspen Insurance names Sarah Stanford as Interim CEO of Aspen UK

Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited has announced the appointment of Sarah Stanford as the interim CEO of Aspen UK, effective immediately.

Aspen logoStanford, currently serving as the Active Underwriter of Lloyd’s Syndicate 4711, representing approximately 75% of Aspen’s UK business, steps into the role with over 25 years of industry experience.

In 2023, Stanford spearheaded the creation of Aspen Digital, an industry-first digital-only follow capacity, in partnership with Ki.

Stanford joined Aspen in 2007 and has held various senior roles, including Head of International Management Liability and Professional Lines, before being appointed as the Active Underwriter of Lloyd’s Syndicate 4711 in 2019.

Prior to her tenure at Aspen, she held underwriting positions at Limit MJ Harrington Syndicate 2000/QBE.

Reporting to Mark Cloutier, Executive Chairman and Group CEO, Sarah will also continue to be a member of the Group Executive Committee.

This transition comes as Stanford takes over from Richard Milner, who will be departing Aspen on 31 March to pursue other opportunities.

Global specialty insurer and reinsurer Chaucer has appointed Richard Milner as its new Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), subject to local regulatory approval.

A formal selection process is underway to confirm a permanent CEO, subject to Board and regulatory approval.

Mark Cloutier, Executive Chairman and Group CEO, expressed his pleasure at Sarah’s interim appointment, highlighting her impressive track record, innovative approach, and solid market reputation.

Cloutier emphasised the depth of talent within the Aspen team and the strength of their succession planning.

In addition to her role as interim UK CEO, Stanford will continue in her position as Active Underwriter. The departure of Milner after four years with Aspen was acknowledged with gratitude for his contributions, and best wishes were extended for his future endeavours.
