AXA XL Re, the reinsurance arm of AXA’s property & casualty and specialty risk division, has announced the appointment of Tristan Abend to the newly expanded position of Head of Property, responsible for both US & International business in Bermuda.
Abend has worked as part of the property team for AXA XL Reinsurance for more than a decade, serving in various roles including, most recently, International Product Lead for the Property segment and previously Head of International Property for Bermuda and London.
In his new role, effective December 15, he will manage property treaty reinsurance for Bermuda working with AXA XL’s clients and underwriting team.
Abend joined AXA XL Re in September 2012. Prior to joining the company he was a Senior Underwriter with Flagstone Reinsurance Ltd., where he held various underwriting positions from 2005. Before that, Abend worked as an Underwriter with ACE Tempest Reinsurance Ltd.
Commenting on the appointment, Mark Twite, Chief Executive Officer, Bermuda, Reinsurance said: “Tristan has been a key part of our Property team for 10 years.
“As we develop our product strategies in relation to this key line of business his knowledge and experience will be vital to ensuring we service our clients effectively and ensure our long-term sustainability in the market.”
Back in October AXA XL Re also announced the appointment of a range of new global product leaders.
These included Greg Dyer, appointed as new leader of US Casualty at AXA XL Re; Conor Gaffney, to lead Marine, Energy, and Whole Accounts at AXA XL Re; and Marcus Gonzales now leads International Casualty.
Peter Kiernan was also appointed to lead US Property at AXA XL Re; Peter Schmidt now leads the Credit & Surety team; and André Liebkopf leads the firm’s Aviation operation.
