AXIS Capital Holdings has announced the establishment of an Inland Marine unit, led by industry veteran Kristen Hunter, as part of its strategic expansion of specialty offerings and capabilities in North America.
Hunter, with an impressive track record in specialty underwriting and portfolio management, joins AXIS Capital from Berkshire Hathaway, where she was previously Vice President and Marine, Inland Marine Unit Leader.
Mike McKenna, Head of North America at AXIS, lauded Hunter’s appointment, highlighting her leadership skills and expertise in underwriting.
He expressed confidence in her ability to successfully spearhead the launch, development, and profitable growth of the North American Inland Marine business unit.

Joining Kristen Hunter’s team are industry professionals Ciara Nolan, Sinead O’Shea, and Saoirse McNulty, all of whom assume crucial underwriting roles within the new unit.
These individuals, having previously worked alongside Hunter at Berkshire Hathaway, bring a wealth of experience to the table. While the team will primarily be headquartered in Boston, Ciara Nolan will be based at the AXIS New York office.
