AXIS Capital Holdings Limited has revealed its “AXIS Re Actuarial Scholarship” in partnership with China’s Renmin University to financially assist students in developing actuarial science skills, acumen, and professional training throughout the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
At a recent Renmin University ceremony, AXIS Re’s APAC Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) Les Loh, and Vice President Tony Gu presented scholarships to five actuarial science students.
Richard Milner, President and CUO, AXIS Re APAC, commented; “The actuarial sciences play a vital role within the insurance industry by enabling more advanced and accurate business analysis, risk modeling and, ultimately, decision making by underwriters. We look forward to continuing to work with Renmin University, as well as our other partners in the Asia-Pacific region and throughout the world, to support the educational needs and advance the professional development of students who wish to pursue a career in insurance.”
In a further sign of the firm’s commitment to developing future generations of re/insurance professionals, AXIS Re APAC sponsored the annual Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) Actuarial Scholarship in the region.

Renmin University is a public research university located in China, Beijing – its post-graduate actuarial science and risk management degree is considered to be one of the best-rated insurance sector degrees in the country.
