Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) has announced significant leadership changes, appointing Suzanne Williams-Charles as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and David Altmaier as Executive Advisor.

Williams-Charles, set to join BILTIR in April, brings over 25 years of extensive experience in the insurance sector, with a notable focus on regulation.

Her previous role as Director of Policy and Regulation, Corporate Secretary, and Data Privacy Officer at the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) showcased her leadership skills in directing ABIR’s Bermuda office and spearheading its public outreach agenda.

Before joining ABIR, Williams-Charles served as the Deputy Director of Insurance Supervision at the Bermuda Monetary Authority, overseeing risk-based supervision of all commercial regulated entities in the insurance sector.

As the new CEO of BILTIR, Williams-Charles expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I am delighted to take up the new position as CEO of BILTIR. The industry is at an exciting and pivotal stage, and I look forward to working with BILTIR members to ensure that they are effectively represented in all areas of development.”

Christine Patton, the current Executive Director, will assist in the leadership transition over the next few months before stepping down in April.

In addition to Williams-Charles’ appointment, BILTIR also announced that Curtis Dickinson will step down as Executive Advisor, continuing to assist BILTIR on an ad hoc basis.

David Altmaier, the former Commissioner of Insurance for Florida, has been contracted as the new Executive Advisor.

Altmaier served as the Florida Insurance Commissioner from 2016 to 2022, overseeing one of the largest insurance markets globally. His involvement in national and international insurance regulatory policy, including serving as the President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) in 2021, adds significant expertise to BILTIR.

Natasha Scotland Courcy, Chair of BILTIR, expressed excitement about the new appointments, stating, “With recent global and local regulatory changes impacting the long-term sector, their experience in the regulatory environment will allow us to strengthen our position as we navigate through changes and advocate on behalf of our members.”
