Brit adds James Birch as Head of Innovation

Specialty insurer and reinsurer Brit Ltd has appointed James Birch as Head of Innovation, a newly created position.

BRIT logoEffective July 22nd, 2019, Birch will report directly to Brit’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Matthew Wilson.

In his new role, he will be responsible for managing the company’s innovation process, helping to identify both business opportunities and new technologies that can further support Brit’s strategy, of which innovation is a key component.

Birch has worked in FinTech for more than 10 years, and joins Brit from venture capital firm Hambro Perks, where led the establishment of InsurTech Gateway 2017, and insurtech investment vehicle. As Principle, he led fundraising, and oversaw deal flow as well as managing the fund’s portfolio.

Prior to Hambro Perks, he co-founded Pluto, which combines dynamic pricing, digitalised policy management and an automated claims service for buyers of travel insurance. He has also worked at EY, where he established the Global FinTech team. He started his career with Accenture.

Commenting on the appointment, Wilson said: “As one of our three strategic pillars, innovation is a critical area of focus for us. We are therefore delighted that James joins Brit in the newly created role of Head of Innovation.

“James will bring an entrepreneurial approach and fresh perspectives as we look to explore new opportunities, develop and implement new technologies and evolve our processes to respond to the changing demands of the market and our clients.”
