Wholesale specialty insurance company and managing general agent Burns & Wilcox Limited, part of insurer H.W. Kaufman Group, has announced the appointment of John Tiernan as Underwriting Director, based out of the firm’s London office.
Tiernan brings more than three decades of experience in both the Lloyd’s of London and Company markets in London, as well as the UK mid-market regional area.
In his new role, Tiernan joins the firm’s UK leadership team to help drive growth and expand Burns & Wilcox’s product offerings.
He will be tasked with providing underwriting leadership and governance at the insurer, and will report to Managing Director, Stuart Kilpatrick, Burns & Wilcox.
Previously, Tiernan spent eight years with UK insurer Aviva, including as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) of the firm’s Corporate and Specialty Risks division, and also as an International Director.
Prior to Aviva, he spent time with Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co. in Europe as a property underwriter, and also spent eight years with RSA, including as Property Underwriting Manager.
