CNA Hardy’s Carl Day to join Apollo as new deputy CUO

Independent specialist re/insurer Apollo has hired CNA Hardy’s Carl Day as deputy Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).

apollo-logoAccording to the announcement, Day is expected to join the firm in late 2024.

In the role, he will be heavily involved in developing the strategic direction of underwriting at the firm.

When he joins the company later this year, Day will report to James Slaughter, Group CUO.

Overall, Day brings over 28 years of expertise in the London insurance market towards his new role.

He will be joining the firm from CNA Hardy, where he is currently active underwriter for Syndicate 382.

Before he joined CNA, Day spent 13 years at specialist global insurer, Hiscox, where he worked as an energy class underwriter.

As well as this, he has also previously held roles at BRM Syndicate 1861 and Commercial Union London Market.

Addressing Day’s appointment, Slaughter said: “I am delighted to announce Carl’s appointment as the new deputy CUO. He has an impressive track record and has demonstrated exceptional depth and insight throughout his career. His role as deputy CUO will be pivotal in continuing to deliver our strategic goals and exemplifies the exceptional talent we are attracting to enable our vision.”

In related news, Apollo recently launched the “first captive syndicate of the modern era” at Lloyd’s in partnership with a major global client.

As per Apollo, this is the latest development in its mission to grow its extensive market offering and leading managing agency services.
