Cowbell Cyber appoints chief insurance officer

2nd March 2022 - Author: Pete Carvill

Cowbell Cyber has appointed a new chief insurance officer in Kara Owens.

Owens’s appointment, nearly four years after she was hired by Markel to lead its global cyber executive, will see her oversee reinsurance partnerships, and risk and portfolio management, as well as driving new product development and innovation. It is understood that Owens will be the inaugural CIO for the company.

Jack Kudale, founder and CEO at Cowbell Cyber, said in a statement: “After a year of record underwriting profitability and performance, Kara joins the Cowbell team at a point of momentous industry growth as the demand for cyber cover continues to soar.”

He added: “As a board observer, Kara has known Cowbell since its inception and I’m confident that she will strategically help us as we usher through our second wave of growth.”

Cowbell Cyber has made a number of hiring and tactical moves in recent weeks, having brought on Theresa Le and Dan Palardy as head of claims and risk engineering and lead actuary, respectively. And, more recently, it announced that it was to partner with Smart Choice to help distribute cyber coverage and risk monitoring services.
