Zurich Insurance Group (Zurich) has announced that Dirk De Nil, the current CEO of Zurich Benelux and Nordics, will transition to the role of Global Head of Zurich Resilience Solutions, effective October 1, 2023, marking a significant leadership change within the organisation.
He will take the reins from Hanno Mijer, who is set to retire at the start of October.
Sierra Signorelli, CEO of Commercial Insurance at Zurich, expressed her enthusiasm for De Nil’s appointment, stating, “I am delighted to have Dirk take on this important role within the Commercial Insurance business. His industry and leadership experience, along with his passion for customer focus, position him very well to lead the business and drive its growth and success.”
Signorelli emphasised the critical importance of Zurich Resilience Solutions in the ever-evolving risk landscape and recognised the contributions of outgoing leader Hanno Mijer, who has been at the helm of the division since its establishment in 2021.

Dirk De Nil, who joined Zurich in 2008 and has held various leadership roles within the company, boasts over three decades of insurance industry experience.
Notably, he has successfully led teams in customer management, distribution, and operations across multiple countries. Since 2018, De Nil has served as CEO of Benelux and Nordics, where he strengthened local teams and positioned the region for continued success in executing the commercial insurance strategy.
Hanno Mijer, who has been with Zurich since 2007 and held various leadership positions, played a pivotal role in supporting the Group’s growth strategy. Prior to his role as Global Head of Zurich Resilience Solutions, he served as CEO of CoverMore and Global Head of Corporate Life & Pensions.
The search for Dirk De Nil’s successor as CEO of Zurich Benelux and Nordics is currently underway, with Zurich poised to continue its commitment to excellence and customer-focused innovation in the insurance industry.
