International law firm Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP has added Dan Brown as a partner, as it looks to bolster its insurance regulatory and transactional capabilities.

Brown will be based in the firm’s San Francisco office and becomes a member of the company’s Insurance Regulatory and Transactional Team.

Andrew C. Kassner, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Drinker Biddle, commented; “Adding a lawyer of Dan’s caliber significantly advances the goal to establish our nationally recognized insurance regulatory and transactional team in California, the country’s largest insurance market.

“Dan brings considerable regulatory and transactional experience to our national roster of insurance clients, and his relationships within the industry create a foundation for additional growth in our practice in California and nationally.”

Brown was most recently a partner at Dentons where he was a member of the firm’s Insurance Regulatory practice. Before this, Brown worked at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP in Portland, Ore., London and San Francisco.

According to Drinker Biddle, Brown represents insurers, brokers and agents, and other market participants in the admitted and surplus lines insurance industry in the U.S. Which includes providing advisory services to non-U.S. insurance companies on compliance matters surrounding state non-admitted insurance laws.

Brown also advises producers on licensing, placement and premium tax issues, and also advises commercial insurance buyers. Furthermore, Drinker Biddle explains that Brown advises players in the London marketplace on U.S. insurance law compliance.

Neil K. Haimm, Chair of Drinker Biddle’s Corporate Practice Group, commented on the appointment; “Dan’s deep familiarity with the California regulatory environment broadens our insurance capabilities beyond existing strengths in markets including Chicago, New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia.

“He is a highly regarded member of the insurance legal community, both in California and nationally, who has previously worked closely with other members of our insurance team, including Mike Byrne, Tom Dawson and John Mulhern.”
