Global reinsurance broker Ed has named Joanne Merrick as Head of Legal, Risk and Compliance, a role she will start from June.
Merrick has over twenty years of legal experience in the insurance and reinsurance sector, most recently gained at reinsurer Gen Re where she was regional general counsel for fifteen years.
In her time at Gen Re, Merrick managed legal and compliance risk for the reinsurers UK and Africa platforms, as well as giving legal support to the firm’s offices worldwide.
Before her time at Gen Re Merrick was head of legal and company secretary at Trenwick International.
Andrew Wallin, Group Commercial Director of Ed, commented on the appointment; “Over the past year we have undergone tremendous change. We have significantly expanded our geographical reach and entered into new lines of business. We have taken a major step forward in developing our integrated global MGA business unit. As we grow, we need a high calibre individual who has a track record of managing legal and compliance risk in the international (re)insurance space and Joanne brings a wealth of legal and compliance expertise and experience to Ed. Merrick will report directly to Wallin in the role.
