Reinsurance broker Howden Re has announced the appointment of Eloise Hurley Wellington to lead Howden Re Programmes Europe.
Howden Re Programmes Europe supports MGAs, programme managers, carriers and capacity providers across Europe. Previously called Bowood Europe, the business’s new name reflects its continued evolution and alignment with Howden’s established identity and capabilities across the region.
Hurley Wellington brings extensive experience across delegated authority and specialty insurance, with a track record of advising MGAs, carriers and entrepreneurial underwriting businesses across Europe.
Since joining Howden Re in 2023, she has played a key role in developing its European MGA and programmes business, expanding insurer relationships and supporting clients throughout the MGA lifecycle.
Before joining Howden Re, Hurley Wellington held various senior leadership roles at Zurich, most recently serving as Head of MGA, Zurich Global Ventures.
Howden Re said Hurley Wellington’s appointment strengthens the business’s ability to support clients in Europe’s growing and evolving MGA market.
Stephen Greener, Divisional CEO, Bowood and Howden Re Programs, said, “Howden Re has built a highly successful global Programmes business by staying ahead of the market and continually finding new ways to support our clients. We have been at the forefront of Europe’s evolving MGA sector, bringing the insight, innovation and solutions clients need to grow. Eloise has been instrumental in building our position in Europe and is the right person to lead our offering, helping clients seize the opportunities created by a rapidly evolving MGA market.”
Tobias Andersson, Head of Continental Europe, Howden Re International, commented, “Europe’s MGA market is inherently local, and our strength is combining deep local relationships with the scale and specialisms of Howden’s global business. We collaborate across Howden Re and the wider Group to bring together the right expertise, capital and solutions for each client as their needs evolve. I congratulate Eloise on her appointment and look forward to working with her and the Programmes team to innovate and deliver for our European MGA clients.”
Hurley Wellington added, “MGAs are increasingly central to insurance distribution and product development across Europe. As the market matures, clients need more than access to capacity; they need specialist market knowledge, insight and solutions that can support their ambitions over the long term. We have strong foundations, deep relationships across the market and access to the breadth of Howden’s capabilities. I look forward to building on that to help our MGA and carrier clients navigate the opportunities ahead.”
