Avla, one of the five largest financial lines insurance groups in Latin America, has announced a number of key leadership appointments, including the promotion of Executive Director André Bertolino to CEO of its Brazilian operation, and Felippe Astrachan as CEO of its reinsurance business.
Having joined the company roughly four years ago, Bertolino has served as Commercial Director since 2022, just a year after the insurer launched in Brazil, and has been instrumental in building the operation into what it is today.
With a strong background in the insurance sector, he previously developed financial risk solutions at XP Inc. and held technical leadership roles at Wiz Soluções and Junto Seguros prior to stepping into the executive leadership of Avla Brazil.
Bertolino commented: “I feel honored by the group’s trust in choosing me to lead this operation, which I have watched grow from a spreadsheet into the business we have today.
“The Brazilian operation has matured exponentially in recent years, and continuing this trajectory is a major challenge. We have already been working toward this goal, and I will continue to lead this process to ensure we serve our clients even better, helping Avla continue to grow and evolve.”
As part of the leadership changes, the Chilean insurer has appointed of Felippe Astrachan, formerly CEO of the Brazilian operation, as CEO of AvlaRe, the group’s reinsurance company, while continuing to contribute to other areas of the business.
Astrachan has worked alongside Bertolino since the executive joined Avla and highlights the development of the Brazilian operation since the company first entered the market.
“I had the privilege of leading the Brazilian operation from the very beginning, in 2021, and since 2022, I have worked side by side with André to build a successful operation together. I am certain that Bertolino is the right person to lead the next phase,” Astrachan said.
Alongside Astrachan’s move to the reinsurance business, Paulo Oliveira, who has served as Director of Operations and Strategy at Avla Brazil since 2024, will also join him at AvlaRe, taking on the roles of Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO).
