Fusion Specialty, the renowned global boutique M&A and specialty insurance services group, has recently made significant leadership changes with the appointment of two new CEOs.

fusion specialtyMichael Federer, commonly known as Mike, has been promoted to the role of CEO, Fusion Specialty North America, while Katherine Simmonds, known as Katie, has been appointed as CEO, Fusion Specialty International.

These strategic appointments aim to strengthen the executive team and support the company’s growth trajectory, following a recent investment from high-quality private equity partner Direct Capital Group.

Mike brings extensive experience as a seasoned insurance executive with a diverse background. With over 18 years of combined experience as a corporate attorney specialising in M&A deals and an M&A insurance underwriter, Mike is well-equipped to lead Fusion’s expansion in North America.

In his new position, he will continue driving the development of Fusion’s M&A insurance product suite, including their groundbreaking M&A Tech solution called Mio (M&A Insurance Online).

Katie joined Fusion Specialty in 2021 and has played a pivotal role in spearheading the company’s growth in the M&A insurance markets across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.

Prior to her tenure at Fusion, Katie held executive positions at global brokers and leading specialty insurers, where she pioneered the underwriting of M&A products in the APAC region, fostering strong connections in the London and international markets.

As the CEO of Fusion Specialty International, Katie will be responsible for further developing Fusion’s presence in the UK, APAC, and EMEA regions. Her role encompasses expanding Fusion’s offerings in M&A, Financial Lines, and other specialist insurance products.

Commenting on the promotions, David Rogers, group co-CEO, and co-founder expressed his delight and highlighted Katie’s and Michael’s exceptional leadership qualities within their respective teams.

Rogers emphasised their significant contributions to realising Fusion’s vision of pioneering the concept of MGA 3.0, which combines a global infrastructure of licensed MGAs with local teams of experts. The company aims to leverage technology and innovation to enhance underwriting capabilities, offer innovative products, establish partnership distribution channels, and promote sustainable insurance practices.

Killian McDermott, group co-CEO, and co-founder emphasised Fusion’s commitment to rapidly expanding its global boutique M&A and specialty insurance services group.

With their expertise and strong partnerships in the ecosystem, both Katie and Michael are well-positioned to address the M&A and specialty insurance risk protection gap in the global small to mid-market segments while driving the digitisation of specialty insurance on a global scale.
