Reinsurance broker Gallagher Re has announced the appointment of Richard Rudden to the newly created role of Head of Green Solutions.
This position aims to develop insurance and reinsurance solutions to support clients in their energy transition efforts.
Reporting directly to Nick Croxford, Head of Marine, Energy & Aviation at Gallagher Re, Rudden will closely collaborate with Gallagher’s global climate risk teams. These teams are dedicated to reducing carbon emissions, addressing climate risks, and devising strategies for climate adaptation and mitigation.
Croxford expressed his enthusiasm for Rudden’s appointment, stating, “The insurance and reinsurance ecosystem plays a significant role in driving positive change, and Richard is committed to finding innovative solutions that will both facilitate and kickstart the flow of investment into energy transition technologies/ sustainable energy solutions.
“As a business, we are determined to be at the forefront of tackling the climate problems we face, and Richard’s appointment is a testament to our dedication to this cause.”
Rudden brings over 12 years of experience in various energy insurance roles to his new role.
Before joining Gallagher Re, Richard Rudden held the position of Head of Energy Transition at Fidelis MGU. Prior to that role, he spent over five years at SiriusPoint, where his last position was Global Head of Energy. Rudden also gained seven years of experience at Aspen Insurance Group, serving most recently as International Head of Upstream Energy.
Rudden commented, “I firmly believe that insurance and reinsurance has a crucial role to play in attracting the necessary capital into energy transition technologies. Only through understanding the barriers to entry for the required levels of investment can we begin to create meaningful insurance and reinsurance solutions and facilitate change. This is an extremely important challenge to the industry and one which needs to be faced head on. I am delighted to have taken up this position at Gallagher Re and am looking forward to getting stuck in.”
