Guy Carpenter, a global risk and reinsurance specialist and a business of Marsh McLennan, has appointed Michael Shemi as the North America Structured Credit Leader, effective immediately.
Shemi will be based in New York, reporting to Jeffrey Krohn, who serves as the Global Mortgage and Structured Credit Leader within the organisation.
This newly established role is part of Guy Carpenter’s ongoing commitment to making strategic investments in the creation of pioneering risk transfer solutions in the credit sector, the company noted.
Shemi’s primary responsibility will involve developing credit risk transfer solutions and the necessary analytics to support the growth of the reinsurance market, particularly across asset classes that are not closely correlated with traditional property and casualty risks.
With over 15 years of experience in the field, Shemi most recently held the position of Principal Advisor at the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). During his tenure at FHFA, he led several strategic initiatives related to mortgage guarantee fee pricing, credit risk transfer, and capital planning for the Government-Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs).
Before his role at FHFA, Shemi provided guidance to financial institutions and corporate creditor groups while working at the investment bank Moelis & Co. He also gained experience in global credit markets during his time at the private money management firm, Christofferson, Robb & Co.
