U.S. domiciled independent reinsurance brokerage Holborn Corporation has announced the appointment of Berto Sciolla as Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Production Officer, effective immediately.
Sciolla has more than 30 years’ experience in the reinsurance industry and joins Holborn from General Reinsurance Corporation (Gen Re), where he has held a variety of domestic and international leadership roles since 1984.
He most recently served as EVP and Regional Manager of Gen Re’s North American Treaty Mutual Practice, and has helped the company develop strategies for business development, multi-channel distribution, diversification, M&A, integration, brand management, as well as customer service.
In his new role, Sciolla will be responsible for enhancing Holborn’s existing client relationships through the coaching of client service teams, talent development, and performance management.
He will operate across Holborn’s three offices in New York City, Minneapolis and Kansas City, and will be based in New York.

During his career, Sciolla has also served General Manager of General Re Underwriting Services (Underwriting Manager for Tempest Re), Gen Re’s Global Property Facultative Regional Manager, Managing Director of General Reinsurance UK and Executive Vice President of Gen Re.
Additionally, he has served on the General Reinsurance Corporation Risk Committee since 2008.
