Global insurance brokerage Howden has appointed Alan McNamara as Executive Director, Balance Sheet Advisory & Structuring for Howden CAP, its capital, advisory and placement business.

McNamara will join Howden after the completion of contractual obligations to his present employer at the end of 2023.

He will be based in Dublin and will report to Colin Reddy, Head of Financial Institutions & Advisory, Howden CAP.

Robert Kennedy, Chief Executive Officer of Howden Ireland, commented: “I have been impressed by Howden CAP’s growth in the past year and it’s evident that their expert talent and possession of a deep understanding of clients’ challenges is the driving force behind this success.

“With Alan’s appointment, Howden CAP is well positioned to lead the way in providing cutting-edge balance sheet solutions in Ireland and the wider market.”

The firm says that McNamara’s appointment underlines Howden CAP’s commitment to investing in specialist expertise for its bank and institutional clients and embedding them across the local markets in current operations.

Previously, McNamara served at the Bank of Ireland where he has spent the past 20 years and held a variety of senior positions, most recently as the Head of Group Balance Sheet Management & Execution.

He was responsible for the bank’s extensive SRT programme. McNamara is a veteran with expertise in balance sheet management and credit solutions and, in his new role, will use this to enhance the advisory and structuring expertise across Howden CAP with a particular focus on portfolio solutions and significant risk transfer transactions.

His appointment closely follows the arrival of Guido Cafaggi, who joined Howden CAP earlier this month from Lloyds Banking Group.

Prior to this, Cafaggi was at Mizuho where he spent five years in the Securitised Products & Structured Finance division and will also report to Reddy.

Drew Wardrope, Divisional CEO of Howden CAP, added, “The Howden CAP proposition resonates well with clients and following Colin’s arrival earlier in the year, we continue to demonstrate solid progress in developing our advisory and holistic solutions offering for our bank and institutional clients.

“Alan has an acute understanding of client needs given his depth of experience, and will be instrumental in supporting our clients achieve their strategic goals in a progressively demanding macroeconomic and political environment. I look forward to welcoming him to the team.”
