Howden names Ivo Gugolz CEO for Reinsurance, Switzerland

International insurance broker Howden has hired Ivo Gugolz from Aon, as its Chief Executive Officer for Reinsurance in Switzerland, to be effective April 1st 2023.

howden-group-logoAccording to the broker, Gugolz appointment signals a further European focus for Howden in reinsurance, as with this senior hire the company has secured a well-known leader in the Swiss and European marketplace.

Gugolz joins Howden from Aon, where he has served as CEO of Reinsurance Solutions in Switzerland. He joined Aon in 2002 as a reinsurance broker with regional focus, in 2008 he was promoted to lead his department and then in 2015 became CEO.

His career began at Rhine Re and the Alea Group where he spent eight years focused on reinsurance underwriting across the Swiss market and in Eastern Europe.

In April 2021, Howden launched its retail operation in Switzerland, which followed the 2020 acquisition of IRIA, a Geneva-headquartered specialist political risk and credit insurance broker now part of Howden Specialty.

In October 2021, Howden acquired BrokerCenterZürichsee AG (BCZ), an independent insurance broker servicing Swiss SME clients across personal lines, property, and asset insurance, offering a full range professional services and exceptional client service. According to Howden, this acquisition represented investment in local expertise and a platform for its strategic growth plans in the country.

Since then, Howden also acquired, in September 2022, Born Consulting AG, a Bern-based independent insurance broker for national and international intermediaries, large companies and the public sector.
