Howden Re, the reinsurance arm of global broking group Howden, has appointed Tim Radford as Managing Director, Head of Lloyd’s Capital, a role which sits within the firm’s Capital Solutions platform.

In his role, Radford will be pivotal in driving Howden Re’s Lloyd’s capital strategy and working across Howden Re Capital Solutions and Howden Capital Markets & Advisory (HCMA).

His remit includes connecting Lloyd’s and London market capital with broader institutional and investor capital, and ensuring a joined-up, client-led approach across reinsurance, capital solutions and advisory, explains the broker.

Radford started his career in the industry at reinsurance giant Swiss Re in 2013, serving as a Property Treaty Underwriter in the UK and Lloyd’s, and the Nordics. After this, he joined Securis Investment Partners as an Analyst specialising in Lloyd’s and Specialty Reinsurance and Retrocession, later working in investment origination with a focus on life ILS.

After two years with Aon as a Broker focused on the Lloyd’s market, Radford joined Howden Re in 2023 with a focus on Funds at Lloyd’s, legacy solutions, and structured reinsurance.

Bradley Maltese, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Global Specialty, Howden Re, commented on the appointment, “Lloyd’s remains a critical part of the global specialty insurance market. This appointment reflects our continued investment in market-leading expertise and ensures we are well-positioned to support clients, carriers, and investors as capital dynamics across Lloyd’s continues to evolve.”

Jarad Madea, CEO, HCMA, added, “Our clients and investors find immense value in the integrated approach to reinsurance expertise, capital solutions and advisory applied at Howden. Tim’s appointment strengthens the collaboration between HCMA and Howden Re, further enhancing our industry-leading expertise and ability to deliver joined-up advice and execution across the Lloyd’s ecosystem, which remains of great interest to investors.”

The appointment follows a period of growth at Howden Re’s Capital Solutions platform, with its successes in new Lloyd’s Syndicate launches and capital raising.

The division, led by Vijay Mavani, Managing Director, Capital Solutions, structures bespoke solutions that connect risk with capital and support clients in navigating increasingly complex balance sheet and market challenges. The broker appointed Grace Kavanagh as Director, Capital Solutions, in April of this year.
