ICEYE, a provider of satellite-based disaster management solutions, has expanded its Earth Observation capabilities with the launch of two new SAR satellites.
With these new satellites, ICEYE aims to expand its availability imaging technology to deliver additional 25 cm imaging capacity.
Now, ICEYE counts with 40 satellites in orbit since 2018. This latest launch marks the ninth satellite deployed by the company in 2024 alone.
ICEYE provides critical geospatial data to the insurance and reinsurance industry, helping them better assess and manage risk, particularly related to natural catastrophes like floods and wildfires.
The new SAR satellites were launched into mid-inclination orbits to enhance coverage in mid-latitude regions (+/- 45degrees).
This strategic placement doubles collection opportunities compared to traditional polar orbits, benefiting customers with interests in these areas, ICEYE explained.
The satellites were integrated via Exolaunch and launched as part of the Bandwagon-2 rideshare mission with SpaceX from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, US. Both satellites have established communication, and early routine operations are underway.
Rafal Modrzewski, CEO and Co-founder of ICEYE commented: “This launch marks another significant milestone in ICEYE’s ability to provide our customers with a rich diversity of collection opportunities.
“We bolster our industry-leading SAR constellation and expand our customers’ collection opportunities in the areas most important to them.”
