Pinion Insurance, a newly-formed, technology-enabled specialty insurer, has announced the appointment of Chris Jones as Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective immediately.
Jones is now part of a founding leadership team of Chief Executive Officer, Neil McConachie, Group Chief Underwriting Officer, Philip Vandoninck, and Group Chief Technology Officer, Laura Baird.
He has also become a member of Pinion’s Executive Committee and will be based in London.
Jones, who has over three decades of experience in finance and accountancy, joined Pinion from Aspen Insurance Group, where he most recently served as UK Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to that, he held finance leadership roles at Beazley Furlonge and Liberty Syndicates. He started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
Commenting on Jones’ appointment McConachie said: “Chris is an excellent addition to the Pinion founding management team. He has enjoyed a sterling career in the insurance industry, and his expertise will be invaluable as we build out the business.”
Jones stated: “I am excited to have the opportunity to join such an innovative business as Pinion, a business that will be built using modern technology for operational efficiency. We have strong financial backing, and I am looking forward to working with Neil, Philip and Laura.”
The appointment follows the recent addition of Kyle Selvig as US Chief Underwriting Officer.
Pinion began operations in February 2026. Incorporated in Bermuda and headquartered in London, the launch included a preferred equity commitment of up to $180 million from Barings, a global asset manager.
The new insurer is built on data-driven foundations of Pinion Risk Consulting (PRC). Pinion will offer insurance capacity and proprietary technology-driven underwriting insight for MGAs in the US, UK, and Europe.
Additionally, the firm targets binding business in the US in the second quarter of 2026, and plans to underwrite in the EU and UK in 2027, pending regulatory approval.
