Pinion Insurance, a newly formed specialty insurance carrier, has announced the appointment of Kyle Selvig as US Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), effective immediately.

In this commercial role, Selvig will be responsible for building Pinion’s US Managing General Agent (MGA) network, leveraging the company’s proprietary technology to provide distribution partners with in-depth insights into underwriting exposure and performance.

Pinion anticipates binding its first US business in the second quarter of 2026, pending necessary regulatory approval.

Incorporated in Bermuda and headquartered in London, Pinion launched on 17 February with a preferred equity commitment of up to $180 million from global asset manager, Barings.

It will offer capacity to MGAs in the United States at the outset, followed by building out underwriting platforms in the United Kingdom, and the European Union, all subject to regulatory approval.

Selvig, who has 25 years’ experience in the P&C industry, joins Pinion from Fortegra, where he served for almost a decade.

As Fortegra’s Vice President, Commercial Underwriting, he managed around $400 million in gross written premiums across multiple commercial and personal lines Property & Casualty (P&C) programs.

Throughout his career, Selvig also held underwriting leadership roles at Citizens Property Insurance, where he spent almost eight years.

As Pinion US CUO, the executive will be based in Jacksonville, and report to Pinion’s Group Chief Underwriting Officer, Philip Vandoninck, who commented: “We are delighted to have attracted someone with Kyle’s experience and expertise as we launch Pinion.

“His excellent track record and underwriting expertise will be pivotal as we grow the MGA portfolio across the US.”

Selvig said: “Pinion’s technology-focused insurance platform is exactly what the US program insurance market needs. It is a privilege to join the business right at the start, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the founders to build out the company and deliver exceptional bottom line results.”
