Jonathan May to succeed Amélie Breitburd as Lloyd’s Europe CEO

Jonathan May, currently Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Operations Officer (COO) for Lloyd’s Europe, will take over from Amélie Breitburd as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the European subsidiary on January 1st, 2024.

jonathan-may-lloyds-europe-ceoBreitburd is set to leave Lloyd’s Europe (Lloyd’s Insurance Company (LIC), operating from Brussels) on December 31st, 2023, having been appointed as CEO of the European subsidiary in April 2021.

Lloyd’s says that under her leadership, Lloyd’s Europe has gone from strength to strength, and secured its position as the platform of choice for European specialty commercial risk solutions.

“Lloyd’s Europe has been a great success story during Amelie’s tenure. We could not have hoped for a more positive profile across all stakeholder groups as Lloyd’s Europe grew to be a valued member of the European insurance and reinsurance family,” said Patrick Tiernan, Lloyd’s Chief of Markets.

“During her time as CEO, Amelie has both solidified the European platform and built trust and confidence with customers, brokers and carriers,” he added.

Subject to regulatory approval, May assumes the CEO role in the new year. He is currently a member of the LIC Board of Directors and LIC Management Committee, and has played an important role in helping to establish the foundational strength of the Lloyd’s European business.

May’s career started with Ernst & Young in 1998, and in 2006 he joined Lloyd’s and has gained extensive experience in leadership roles across the Corporation including CFO and COO for the Greater China region, Asia Pacific Regional CFO, Lloyd’s Global CFO, and Global COO leading the finance and operations across the market’s international network.

“The future is very exciting for Lloyd’s Europe as Amelie hands over the leadership to Jonathon as CEO and Benoit as Deputy CEO. I wish Amelie every success in her future career and thank her for her commitment to Lloyd’s,” said Tiernan.

In light of May’s new role as CEO of Lloyd’s Europe, the Corporation has announced a number of other appointments, subject to regulatory approval.

This includes the appointment of Masumi Hashiguchi as CRO of Lloyd’s Europe on November 30th, 2023. Additionally, James Davidson, currently LIC Deputy CFO, has been made CFO, and on an interim basis, LIC COO, effective January 1st, 2024. Davidson will also join the LIC Management Committee and Board, subject to shareholder approval. Finally, Benoit Waltregny is appointed LIC Deputy CEO, alongside his current role as LIC General Counsel.
