Markel Insurance, the insurance operation within Markel Group Inc., has appointed Doan Nguyen as Managing Director of Specialty of London Market operation, effective immediately.
Nguyen succeeds Tom Hillier, who was appointed Chief Underwriting Officer for Markel International earlier this year. She is based in London and reports to Rohan Davies, Managing Director of London Market, Markel International.
In her new role, Nguyen will lead Markel’s Specialty division in London, setting its strategic direction and supporting continued profitable growth across segments including trade credit, political risk & surety (TCPRS), equine & livestock, international casualty, structured portfolio solutions, and political violence & terror.
Additionally, she will focus on working with underwriting teams to support disciplined underwriting performance, portfolio optimisation, product development, and broker and client engagement across Markel’s Specialty lines.
This appointment aligns with Markel’s London Market leadership structure, following the appointments of Dan McCarthy as Managing Director of Marine, Energy & Construction, and Bhavik Desai as Managing Director of PFR & Cyber.
Most recently, Nguyen served as Global Head of Portfolio Solutions at Allianz Commercial. She spent over 12 years with the firm and also held other senior roles including UK Head of Specialty and Global Head of Specialty Strategy. She has over 18 years’ experience across claims, underwriting, strategy, innovation, and portfolio leadership.
