Markel International appoints Simon Engelen as Marine & Energy underwriter

Specialist insurer Markel International has announced the appointment of Simon Engelen as Senior Marine and Energy Liability underwriter.

Markel LogoEngelen, who brings over 16 years’ experience to the role, joins from MS Amlin where he served as Marine Liability Class Underwriter for four years. Prior to that, held the same role at W.R. Berkley and had earlier appointments at QBE and Navigators.

Engelen will report to head of liability, Andrew Carter, who he will support in managing the liability team, including its activities in UK marine, marine trades, and ports and terminals.

“Simon is a first class hire and adding someone of his expertise to our team will enable Markel to enhance its Lloyd’s box service as well as broker and client focus and travel,” said Carter.

“We are delighted to have such an experienced underwriter joining our team.”
