Markel International has hired Ben Wakeham to be its senior war and terrorism underwriter, alongside being the company’s head of terrorism for North America.
The company said that Wakeham, being hired into the company from Hiscox USA, marks its arrival into the US war and terrorism market. It said Wakeham will be instrumental in growing and leading a US-based team. He will report to Ed Winter, senior underwriter and head of terrorism.
Winter said in a statement that he was pleased to have Wakeham on the team.
He added: “With his strong track record in delivering and executing results, we are certain that Ben will be able to take our war and terrorism portfolio to the next level, while providing an unrivalled service to clients.”
Markel has been strengthening its war and terrorism underwriting capabilities in recent weeks, having hired Matthew Brooke to be an underwriter in this segment in its London office. It is in this office that Wakeham will be based initially before moving to the US in the near future.
