Marsh hires Koen van Leuven as Marine Broking Director, Netherlands

Marsh, an insurance broker, risk advisor and business of Marsh McLennan, has appointed Koen van Leuven as the Marine Broking Director, Marsh Netherlands.

marsh-logoBased in Rotterdam, van Leuven is anticipated to join Marsh in the summer of 2024 and will report to Ivo Wansink, Specialty and Placement Leader, Marsh Netherlands, and Kristof De Bremme, Head of Marine, Cargo and Logistics, Europe, Marsh Specialty.

In this new role, van Leuven will lead Marsh Netherlands’ Marine business, which provides hull and cargo insurance broking services and risk advisory expertise to the country’s maritime sector.

Marsh stated that he will also be responsible for coordinating its specialist logistics services across Europe, which will include “optimising cross-country operations and the development of new solutions” that support clients in managing their supply chain and logistics risks.

Commenting on the appointment, Wansink said, “The Dutch shipping industry plays a vital role in the global maritime ecosystem, and its commitment to the development of the country’s blue economy holds immense potential for sustainable growth opportunities.

De Bremme added, “The logistics industry in Europe is expected to reach 1.1 trillion EUR by 2029. Koen’s appointment forms part of Marsh Specialty’s strategy to provide market-leading marine, cargo and logistics solutions to support our European clients as they take on new challenges.”

van Leuven will join Marsh from AIG, where he is Head of Marine for Talbot Underwriting Services and AIG UK, a position he has held since 2022.

He joined AIG in 2008 and has held senior marine underwriting positions in both London and Rotterdam, during which time he reportedly managed multiple complex marine insurance portfolios.
