7th September 2020 - Author: Staff Writer

Specialist boutique broker McGill and Partners has made a series of key hires within its treaty team, including Angus Milgate, who joins as head of treaty reinsurance in September.

McGill and partnersMilgate was formerly head of UK and Ireland for Aon’s reinsurance division and brings over 30 years’ experience in a variety of broking leadership roles in both London and Asia.

In the last six months McGill and Partners’ reinsurance division has added 22 new team members, as the company looks to meet the growing demand for placement of complex risk in a hardening market.

The company says this new team will complement the Facultative team, which has been led by Paul Summers since he joined in April as head of global facultative reinsurance.

He previously led the facultative reinsurance businesses at both Guy Carpenter and Aon.

Other recent senior hires in the treaty reinsurance team include Simon Coles, who recently joined as a partner; Stewart Smith, who recently joined as a partner specialising in casualty; Dan Bailey, who will be joining as a partner with a focus on Retro and ILW with both traditional and capital markets; and Bob Mellor, who soon joins as a partner with a focus on property

“It is testament to the bold ambitions of McGill and Partners that we have secured such an impressive roster of talent in our Reinsurance team,” said John Lloyd, Chairman of McGill and Partners, who has helped oversee the build of the division.

“The market is in a phase of transition, and the last few months have made the case for an innovative approach to placing complex risks.

“With Paul and Angus at the helm of Facultative and Treaty respectively, the Reinsurance team is well-placed to continue to grow and take on new clients as we move into the last quarter of 2020 and into 2021.”
